Digital Fabrication Micro-Credentials

Digital Fabrication is for anyone who wants to be a maker, creator, or tinkerer. Using digital fabrication to turn ideas into reality starts with design in CAD software and then moves to CAM software to run specific tools and machines, like CNC routers, laser cutters, and 3D printers. Adding skills from physical computing, electronics, and woodworking encourages complex prototypes and innovative solutions. These skills can be useful in careers of all types, including engineering, arts, design, industry, construction, and advanced manufacturing.

3D Modeling 3D Modeling Basics Use 3D design software to create three-dimensional models using component-based design
3D Modeling 3D Modeling Import and Export Demonstrate how to import and export models in 3D design software
3D Modeling 3D Modeling Intermediate Use 3D design software tools to create models that include custom shapes
3D Modeling Industrial 3D Modeling Sketching Create and edit sketches and project edges.
3D Modeling Industrial 3D Modeling Bodies Create and edit 3D bodies from sketches using tools
3D Modeling Industrial 3D Modeling Professional Components Create and manage assemblies and animate movement of components
3D Modeling Industrial 3D Modeling: Engineering Drawings Create professional 2D drawings to visualize a 3D Model
3D Printing 3D Pen User Explain 3D (length x height x width) versus 2D (length x width).
3D Printing 3D Pen Mechanic Change and/or load 3D pen filament
3D Printing 3D Model Preparation Prepare models for printing by effectively slicing 3D models
3D Printing 3D Model Slicing Customization (FDM or SLA) Adjust additional settings in slicing software to customize your printing experience
3D Printing 3D Printer Operator (FDM) Effectively prepare models for an FDM 3D printer, and successfully print 3D models. FDM or FFF printers are both a type of fused filament printer. Typical thermoplastics used in an FDM printer include PLA, ABS, Nylon, PETG, etc.
3D Printing 3D Print Finishing Apply proven techniques to finish prints once they are removed from a printer
3D Printing 3D Printer Technician (FDM) Demonstrate an understanding of how to troubleshoot and maintain an FDM 3D printer
3D Printing 3D Printer Operator (SLA - Resin) Effectively prepare models and operate an SLA/resin 3D printer safely and successfully. SLA (stereolithography) uses lasers to harden resin. SLA printers can produce products with greater resolution than FDM printers, however, FDM prints are typically larger and stronger.
